About our Self Defence Course...Common Questions
Why learn self defence fast
It's important to learn self-defence fast because you could need it any day. While martial arts are fantastic and are great for fitness and personal challenges, the reality is that every day, normal, decent people are being hurt. You can learn essential skills very quickly that can prevent you from being selected as a victim and provide you with essential key strategies that could save your life.
How does the course?
Our course can be taken either as a 12-week course, training once a week for 12 weeks, or as a weekend course where you can train on a Saturday and Sunday for two full days. Both courses cover the same material and equip you with the same tactics and skills to help you protect yourself and others.
Who is the course for
Our core course is for everyday, normal people who just want to be able to keep themselves safe. Our age limit for our 2-day and 12-week course is 18 and over, although we will allow mid-teens from 16 and above attend with a parent.
Are there age limits
There are no upper age limits in our course. We believe everybody has a right to protect themselves, and our concepts, skills, and techniques are designed to stay with you for the whole of your life. So these techniques will work when you're 18 and will work when you're 80.
We can teach Self-Defence fast because of a few key ideas:
- We focus on real-world situations. Rather than learning techniques and ideas that work in dojo or for sport, we focus on real-life events that people can face every day.
- Our techniques are designed to be easy to learn and easy to apply under pressure. The reality is, under pressure, the body has a very limited approach to doing complicated techniques.
- We have spent a long time developing our training progression, so over our course (12 weeks or 2 days), we use graduated drills and lessons to bring you through the different techniques and concepts of a step-by-step approach.
- We blend the science of accelerated skill development and performance psychology. The Chief Instructor has qualifications in both areas and has uniquely used these concepts to develop an approach to teaching Self-Defence fast.
Do you teach children
We have a program especially for parents and children. We believe teaching self-defense is a family affair and it's very, very important that it's done properly and safely for all. So we have developed a parent and teen course. In this course, the parents and the teenagers learn self-defense together, training together. What this means is the parent and the teenager have a common understanding of the tactics and strategies that can be used to learn self-defense, and that everybody knows what everybody is learning, and everybody is safe.
What I miss a class in weekly class
As we hope everybody attempts to make every class, we have built in to our timeline and the way we structure each class the reality that people may miss a class because of holidays, being unwell, or other calls on their time. So every week we focus on refreshing and rebuilding what was taught previously. We also provide you with a week-by-week video of every lesson we teach so that you can review this in your own time and practice, and you get to keep this video for life.
What if we can to do days together on a weekend course
A weekend course is designed to be taken together on Day 1 and Day 2. However, if you cannot make both classes, you can take Day 1 on a Saturday on one event and then on a following event you can take the second day on the Sunday. So you can split taking the weekend course over two separate weekends.
Do you gave Female only classes
Our core course is for both men and women, and we strongly believe that this gives a very good outcome because we believe it's important that women learn self-defence with males so that they can practice. However, we do recognize that this is not for everybody, so once or twice a year we hold a course we call FCAT (Female Counter-Assault Training) which is a one-day course that is totally focused on women attendees only.
Do I need to be Fit
You do not need a prescribed level of fitness to take our course. Our belief is that everybody needs to be able to protect themselves regardless of their level of fitness. The reality of life is we will all have different levels of fitness at different times, and to have fitness as a prerequisite for self-defense is not creating an effective self-defense system. Our system is designed so that anyone can use the ideas and the concepts regardless of their level of fitness.
